Getting here
Elysium is on the north coast, about 45 to 60 minutes by car from Madeira airport near Funchal. The route is straightforward, and it is a scenic one: you cross the island through a tunnel and arrive in green hills.
The route
- From the airport, join the VR1 motorway in the direction of Funchal and Ribeira Brava.
- Stay on the VR1 along the south coast as far as Ribeira Brava. This takes about 25 minutes.
- At Ribeira Brava follow the signs for São Vicente. The road climbs the valley and passes under the mountains through the Encumeada tunnel.
- On the north side the road descends to São Vicente. Use the navigation pin for the last few minutes: the villa is on a quiet street at the edge of the village, with parking at the door.
Your navigation will pick the quickest route. If it suggests another one, check that it does not send you over narrow mountain roads in the dark.

- Car hire
- The rental desks are in the arrivals hall at the airport. In high season, book early and choose a car that is comfortable on steep, narrow roads.
- Parking
- There is parking at the villa, and you can charge an electric car.
- Taxi or transfer
- Taxis and private transfers run from the airport to São Vicente. Allow about 50 minutes, and agree the price before you set off.
- Bus
- Public buses to São Vicente exist but take a long time. We recommend a car.
Arrival and check-in
Check-in is in person. A member of our team will welcome you at a scheduled time at the house with open doors and give you a personal tour of the property. This is the perfect opportunity to ask questions, receive detailed explanations about the house, and get our recommendations for the area.
Check-in is after 15:00. Please tell us your flight and expected arrival time beforehand so that someone is there to meet you. If you will arrive earlier, ask us whether the house is already ready.
Check-out is before 11:00.
A tip for the first evening: there is a supermarket in the village, three minutes from the house.
